For my iPhone application geared towards Graphic Designers, I wanted to focus on the still-learning college student demographic, a group that has purchased a large majority of this newest electronic from Apple. I wanted to keep the application geared towards only designers, something typographically based, but with a young, playful interface that could be immediately identified as being more like a game than a seriously functioning program. Since licensing laws as applied to the type industry are sometimes blurry and the cost of purchasing entire Monotype, Adobe, Linoype, etc… libraries can run up to tens of thousands of dollars, it is often the case that college students require fonts for usage that they cannot find or afford. Lo and behold, in comes the Font Bandit to assist them in their design efforts.
A user must first tell the iPhone program which fonts they already possess. Then, much like the “Share Library” and “Find Shared Library” feature on Apple iTunes, this iPhone application will be able to sense the font collections of nearby Apple computer hard-drives, recognize which fonts the iPhone user currently does not have in their arsenal, and then alert the iPhone user. The owner can then choose which fonts they would like to download from other computer libraries onto their iPhone (to later transfer to their own personal computer).
